In 2000 we applied to become Apple Authorised Service Providers.  We were summarily dismissed by Apple stating that “Peterborough is adequately served already”.

At the time, that beggared belief as the nearest AASPs were in Nottingham, Cambridge or Leicester. That is still the case.

There are a few benefits of being Authorised by Apple:

The ability to have warranty work referred - paid for by Apple.

Access to certain diagnostic tools that cannot be found elsewhere.

Access to preferential prices on spares.

However, there are serious downsides as well:

Prohibited from attempting to repair iPads, iPhones and iPods - refurb replacements only!

Prohibited from cleaning up liquid damaged Macs - Apple only permits replacement of parts even if there is no real evidence of damage.

That would mean that we would have to stop working for the benefit of the customer and start working for the benefit of Apple.

At the time we were turned down we were seriously disappointed, but in hindsight it was probably the best thing that could have happened.
